Description

What we think at The Zoe Napier Group

This is a lovely house, of much character, yet with good ceiling heights and with three good sized first floor bedrooms which complement the versatile living areas downstairs – ideal for entertaining with through room accesses and two rear doors for summer family parties.

What the Owners Say

This was Steves first house, some 48 years ago and latterly our home of 12 years together. We love the views across the whole of Halstead and being so close to town, yet away from the hubbub, we feel like we have our own haven with its charming suntrap secret garden.

History & Background

An historic, double fronted, Grade II Listed property situated in an enviable elevated position close to Halstead High Street yet offering a private quintessentially English Country Garden with additional parking and a garage to the rear. The house is part of a former 15th century hall house, which was later split in the mid/late-17th century Tudor times to create three cottages, albeit this property occupies around half of the original building with elevated views across the roof tops, Halstead High Street and across to the converted water tower.

Now available for the first time in nearly half a century, the property has been continually maintained to provide up to date three-bedroom accommodation with three/four reception room areas, alongside a utility room/ground floor w.c. and a fitted kitchen with appliances.

The house offers immense character, combined with its modern-day living, featuring much of the exposed timber frame with evidence of an original Mullion window, a former jettied elevation and wattle & daub finishes. There are also an attractive inglenook fireplace and other feature fireplaces.

Setting & Location

The property is located on Chapel Hill, a designated Conservation area on the west side of the charming market town of Halstead, adjacent to the attractive public gardens and opposite the historic Holy Trinity Church, which was designed by the well-known architect, Gilbert Scott and later decommissioned. The building is now run by Friends of Holy Trinity Church who engage the community with art exhibitions, Choirs, and bands (at Christmas) and other cultural events. The original bells were moved from the fallen spire centuries ago to Greenstead Green.

The Cottage offers off road parking to the fore with access to the rear gates and a further enclosed parking space in front of the garage building.  Its elevated position enjoys views across town, and equally, is within walking distance of the towns amenities. These include a variety of restaurants, tea rooms and pubs, a doctors surgery close by and choice of supermarkets. Schools (for all ages) are also within a short walk.
