Abbot and Slater at The Blackmore Vale Business Awards

On Thursday 18th September the Partners and Staff of Abbot and Slater were at the Blackmore Vale Business Awards at the George Albert Hotel in Evershot.  The Awards ceremony was implemented to highlight the achievements of local businesses and this year Abbot and Slater were proud sponsors of The Community Award, given to the company or individual who was able to demonstrate a significantdifference they had made to their community in the last 12 months.

Christine Slater, one of the Partners at Abbot and Slater says "Abbot and Slater had a table of 10 guests who shared the evening with us.  The event was Black Tie themed around the ‘Great Gatsby’, a really fun idea which enabled the ladies on our table to dress for the era and wear feather hair pieces.  I think you will agree that they were very effective.  Following a delicious meal Penny Mallory was the Host for the Awards.

As a Sponsor, Christine Slater was a Judge for the Community Award along with Tim Letherby, Editor of the Blackmore Vale Magazine.  Judging was meticulous and once the three finalists were selected visits and conference calls enabled the Judges to come to a final decision, but not without some serious consideration.

Christine says “The standard of entry was extremely high with very little between the eventual winner and the runner up.  However, the extensive and diverse work carried out by the team at The Exchange in Sturmintser Newton finally tipped the scales to make them the winner of The Blackmore Vale Business Awards Community Award for 2014.”

On the night Christine had the role of announcing the worthy winner and said that, “She has no doubt The Exchange in Sturminster Newton will continue to do amazing work within the local and wider community. They are very worthy winners of this Community Award.”

Following on from the award ceremony guests could to play roulette and backgammon for charity and dance the night away, whilst socializing with clients and meeting colleagues and business acquaintances from around the area.  The evening was a great success and a fantastic opportunity to support and praise those who have achieved awards whilst acknowledging the wonderful and diverse nature of business and community.

Christine Slater says, “As a guest and not a Sponsor last year I was so impressed by the entrepreneurial nature of businesses represented at this event that Abbot and Slater was more than happy to become a Sponsor of Blackmore Vale Business Awards 2014.   We also very much look forward to supporting this event in 2015 when who knows – your business or community project could be up for an award.”
