Full Description

Manwood House The property is set amongst open countryside almost equidistant between the villages of Hatfield Heath and Matching Green. Manwood House is a Grade II Listed building considered to be of architectural and historical merit and an extract from the Listing suggests the following:

“The house is a former farmhouse probably dating back to around 1595. It is built traditionally with timber frame and plastered with gabled peg-tiled roof. The house is principally two storeys with attics behind the house and a three storey stair tower. The front elevation has three flush display gables and 20th century leaded light casement.”

This fine period house is traditionally constructed with rendered and colour washed elevations under a neat peg tiled roof and has been renovated and modernised by the present owners to provide a high quality family home. On the ground floor there is an impressive entrance hall which leads to the reception rooms with the majority enjoying open fireplaces and many sizeable exposed timbers. To the back of the house there is a well equipped kitchen adjoining a family or dining room and off here a goodly range of storage cupboards, a boot room and utility.

On the first floor there are four bedrooms served by two bathrooms and a shower room and on the top floor an area that would probably appeal to teenagers with a further bedroom, sitting room and en suite shower room.

Outside there are two driveways to the house and one to the cottage. To the front there are formal gardens and a well established pond, a Mediterranean garden, gravel and lawn. Adjoining the house is a double garage and behind a heated swimming pool. There is an adjacent three bedroom cottage which has a double garage and an adjoining office. Beyond this there is a paddock; the total grounds extend to approximately 1.75 acres.

From Bishop’s Stortford proceed in a south easterly direction through the Hallingburys on to Hatfield Heath. Join the heath and turn left heading in an easterly direction out of the village towards White Roding. About a mile outside Hatfield Heath you will pass a small development on the right (Barley Close). Sparrows Lane is then a right hand turn, about half a mile beyond clearly signposted. Turn right down Sparrows Lane for about a mile and the property is then the first house just before a gentle right hand bend on the left hand side. Take the second possible driveway.
