Ireland

IrelandIreland can fairly accurately be described as a saucer with the high ground to the edge and the low-lying areas in the middle, drained by the vast Shannon river system. It is still a romantic, unspoilt and lush land of low population density, apart from the handsome capital, Dublin, where over a quarter of the population reside.

From large-scale emigration up to the 1980s, the past two decades have seen enormous change with unprecedented economic success. This shift from agriculture to a hi-tech, high-value, product-led economy drove record growth through this period.

The availability of a young and well-educated workforce, coupled with an attractive corporate tax regime, drove huge success in the IT and pharmaceutical sectors. A construction boom followed together with the modernisation of the transport infrastructure. The years leading up to the credit crunch saw property prices increasing at enormous speed. However values have been pegged back through the recession and now foreign buyers are again set to play a significant role as Irish property becomes more affordable.

Property transfer is very similar to that in England and Wales and there are rich choices of locations to tempt purchasers. Ireland offers rich and diverse potential for buyers, from the magnificent Georgian architecture of Dublin to an unspoilt coastline offering secluded holiday homes and country houses and estates in lush river valleys.
