Derbyshire
With industry and population concentrated in the south and a spectacular landscape in the north, Derbyshire divides naturally into two distinct areas. In the north west is the Peak District, Britain’s oldest national park. This is where Derbyshire’s most popular villages are to be found, including Ashbourne, Matlock, Alfreton, Ilkeston and Swadlingcote.
Elsewhere the Derwent Valley is a particular favourite. At its heart is Chatsworth, seat of the Dukes of Devonshire. It is one of the most beautiful of England’s country houses. House buyers in this area favour villages like Baslow, Hathersage and Eyam.
