If one believes the bad press one may miss the good news. Essex, away from its highly urban London periphery, is a largely rural county possessing some of the prettiest villages in Britain. From the haunting salt marshes around Maldon to the rolling farmland towards the Hertfordshire, Cambridgeshire and Suffolk borders, there is much to please.
The best value in property is perhaps found north of Braintree where Castle Hedingham, Gosfield and Halstead are popular. Towards the M11 with excellent access to Cambridge and Stansted Airport, buyers favour Saffron Walden, Thaxted and Finchingfield.
